Middle school teams race at Comanche track meet

On Monday, the Lampasas Middle School boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Comanche for their second meet of the season.All four teams -- the seventhgrade and eighth-grade girls, as well as the seventhgrade and eighth-grade boys -- all took first place in the standings.

Lometa City Council selects new attorney to represent the municipality

At Monday’s meeting of the Lometa City Council, the four members present voted to use local attorney Zachary Morris as the new city legal counsel.Morris is finishing his term with the Lampasas City Council and is not running for re-election.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened Feb. 21 with Judge Debbie Garrett presiding over the day’s hearings.Among the action taken at that recent court setting were changes to various hearing dates.

West Texas dust fills the air

Winds reported at 50-60 mph Tuesday afternoon carried dust into Lampasas from the West Texas area, giving the air a brownish tint and blowing over trees and outdoor items with its intensity. Power outages in the area also were attributed to the strong windstorm.

Tuesday house fire results in fatality

A structure fire on County Road 4804 in Kempner city limits led to the death of a 71-year-old female and the complete loss of a home on Tuesday afternoon. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation into the cause of the fire.

Interesting cloud pattern fills the evening sky

A brightly colored sunset is shown over cedar trees in Lampasas. Altocumulus clouds such as these are often seen in winter and early spring ahead of a low-pressure system from the Pacific. Clear, mild weather is forecast to start the month of March.

Mills County solar farm possible near Colorado River

Mills County resident Paul Kamas has concerns about a solar farm proposed for development near the Colorado River. Corix Utilities-Texas, which operates the Lometa Regional Water System, receives water from the Colorado River to supply area customers.

County office complains of bad odor

District Clerk Edith Harrison and two staff members voiced concerns last week to the Lampasas County Commissioners Court about a foul smell in the District Clerk’s Office on Feb. 20.
