Reported burglary leads to shooting death in Jarrell

A reported burglary-in-progress led to a shooting fatality in Jarrell on Thursday. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a call at midnight in the 6000 block of County Road 239 in Jarrell, where a homeowner told officers they had shot the suspect after the man forced entry into the home.

LPD: Vehicle burglaries may be connected

Lampasas Police Department encourages residents to practice Hide, Lock, Take after two vehicle burglaries last week that might be connected. Lampasas Police reported two vehicle burglaries on May 8, one in the 700 block of West Avenue C at 12:41 p.m., and the second in the 800 block of West Avenue A at 3:16 p.m.

Clary honored for volunteer work

Harrell Clary was recognized last Tuesday at the annual FFA banquet as the recipient of the Lampasas FFA Honorary Chapter Degree. Members thanked Clary for his involvement with the their greenhouse program and for the hours he helped in preparing the Plant and Range teams for state competition.

Bike trails roll forward

After years of slow but steady progress, a local group of mountain bike enthusiasts has initiated the next step in establishing trails at the 580 Sports Complex. About 34 months since the initial grassroots development of the trails, Lampasas citizens have taken matters into their own hands.

May sales tax rebates reflect mixed results

Last week’s release of sales tax figures by the state comptroller’s office offered mixed results for entities in the Central Texas area. About one-third of the cities tracked by the Dispatch Record saw their monthly tax allocation fall this period, compared to what they received in May 2022.

The Lampasas Multi-Service Center at 901 S. Live Oak is seeking volunteers to assist with its Meals on Wheels program. One fulltime driver is needed once a week, and substitute drivers also are needed. Those interested may stop by the center and speak with the director, Julie Windham.

Prom royalty reigns, rain or shine

Lampasas High School Prom King Coulson Plouff and Queen Brooklynn Minnick were crowned during the 2023 promenade inside the high school cafeteria. Rain over the weekend necessitated that the promenade be held indoors, rather than at W.M. Brook Park as planned.

Born to Soar skateboarding event set for May 20

Just weeks after the opening of the Lampasas Skate Park, a local skateboarding organization will host an event to introduce the sport to the community. Wings of Eagles Outreach – a faithbased, nonprofit organization that assists local students with academic studies and life skills – will hold the first of what organizers hope to be an annual Born to Soar event at the newly completed skate park.
