Flooding reported in multiple parts of the county

The Lampasas River at FM 2313, between Kempner and Lampasas, was moving rapidly Sunday afternoon after heavy rains during the early-morning hours. Some news reports indicated the river rose more than 30 feet in four hours.

Appraisal district approves its 2026 budget

The Lampasas Central Appraisal District Board of Directors formally approved its 2026 budget with nearly $700,000 in increases over last year’s budget. The decision came in Thursday’s regular meeting.The LCAD taxing entities have 30 days to disapprove of the budget increase before it is formalized.

WATER DISCOLORATIONDue to flooding across the region, the city’s water supplier has experienced increased cloudiness in the source water caused by naturally occurring minerals being stirred up by runoff. As a result, water customers may see more discoloration in their tap water.

In what suddenly has become too commonplace, Lampasas County was hammered with flooding over the weekend during a heavy rainstorm, and two Goldthwaite residents were dramatically rescued off U.S. Highway 183 after the vehicle they were in was swept off the roadway.

Kempner to maintain current tax rate under new budget

Despite a 39% increase in proposed expenses for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, the Kempner City Council is not seeking a tax rate hike.Council members discussed the upcoming FY budget in a workshop during their July 8 meeting. Other than dealing with the items on the consent agenda, no action was taken.

Lampasas County Commissioners provide update on flood damages

The Lampasas County Commissioners Court provided updates on flood damages affecting several county roads in this morning's regular meeting. Sunday’s flooding was severe, with the Lampasas River rising above 31 feet just after 10 a.m. due to intense rainfall in and around Lampasas County.

Lampasas County remains under flood warning

The National Weather Service has extended its flood warning for Lampasas County until 2 p.m. due to excessive rainfall. A flood watch remains active until 7 p.m. The NWS says residents can expect impacts on all rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying  flood-prone locations.

Flood damage minimal here compared to nearby counties

While Central Texas mourns severe loss of life and property damage due to Independence Day weekend flooding, residents of Lampasas County can breathe a small sigh of relief after minimal damage and flood effects were seen here.
