Concerns deepen about New World screwworm

Many ranchers fear it will only be a matter of time before the New World screwworm appears in the Lone Star State. Just last month, the parasitic fly was discovered 70 miles south of the Texas border in the Mexican state of Nuevo León.

Dressed as her favorite cowgirl, Josie Gately takes a hula hoop to try and rope a wooden horse at Sunday’s Squared Silly event. Hundreds of children and their families surrounded the county courthouse for the event after it was postponed from Saturday evening because of inclement weather.

By Thanksgiving, Lampasas residents could have a developed walking trail available along Sulphur Creek between the Western Street and Fourth Street bridges, according to Forward Lampasas members Deorald Finney and Joe Abel.

Daylight saving time will end on Sunday at 2 a.m., and clocks should turn back one hour then.Although Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation earlier this year that would eliminate the twice-a-year clock change in Texas, the law will not take effect unless the federal government grants approval.

Animal feed measure on Texas ballots
