Lometa hit hard by outages, warming station opens

More than 2,000 Lometa-area residences were without steady electrical power from early Monday morning to Tuesday.  Lometa Police Department announced on Tuesday evening that city hall would open as a warming center to those in dire need, and the city would provide cots and blankets for use.

Home determined a total loss after fire, but no injuries reported

Firefighters from Kempner, Lampasas and Copperas Cove battled a house fire on CR 4756 in sub-freezing weather on Monday.

Crews work to keep roads, utilities going

City of Lampasas crews began preparing for severe winter weather last week. “We put 20 tons of sand out on low-water crossings, bridges on Key Avenue and in residential areas – around the fire department, everywhere we were called to go,” Street Superintendent Carlos Garcia said.

Kempner hires part-time police officer

The Kempner City Council voted last week to hire Heriberto “Eddie” Rodriguez for a part-time, temporary position as a police officer. Mayor Pro Tem Mack Ruszkiewicz, Councilman Jared Jones and Councilman Norm Parker voted in favor of the hiring. Councilman John Wilkerson voted against the item.
