Incumbent, councilman contest for Kempner Mayoral seat

Kempner voters will decide the city’s next mayor when they participate in the May 1 municipal election. Mayor Keith Harvey filed to seek re-election, and Place III Councilman John “JW” Wilkerson is challenging Harvey.

County burn ban off at press time

County Judge Randy Hoyer has lifted the county’s burn ban until May 7 at 5 p.m. As a result, controlled outdoor fires are allowed outside Lampasas, Kempner and Lometa city limits. To verify the burn ban status -- as it can change based on weather -- visit www.co.lampasas.tx.us before burning.

Rabid skunk found in town

Lampasas Animal Control Officer Joe Schwartzer picked up a skunk March 30 that appeared ill and had been trapped in a yard in the 500 block of South Main Street. He euthanized the skunk, and it was submitted to a lab for rabies testing.

Game boards installed in Kempner city park

Band Boosters to hold fundraiser

The Badger Band Boosters will hold a Tunes-n-Taters dinner and concert May 1 from 5-7 p.m. at the Infinity X2 wedding venue, 615 East County Road 3064. This event serves as a scholarship fundraiser. A loaded baked potato dinner will be served.

Sheriff: ‘We stand together as a family’ in honor of fallen DPS trooper

Emergency vehicles in Lampasas County lighted up their emergency signals Thursday afternoon in honor of a fallen state trooper who died days after being shot in the line of duty.
