Flower show open to the public

The public is invited to view the Browning Community Garden Club’s annual Flower Show and Design Competition on April 24 from 2-4 p.m. at the social hall of Clear Creek Baptist Church, 3350 FM 2657 in Kempner.

Food pantry to distribute on April 16

St. Mary Catholic Church’s food pantry will hold one drive-through distribution this month: April 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Large bags of nonperishable canned and boxed groceries will be offered. Pantry organizers also hope to have eggs, meat, bread and produce available.

Venue changed for Band Boosters event

The Badger Band Boosters will hold a Tunes-n-Taters dinner and concert May 1 from 5-7 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. This is a change from the original plans. The event serves as a scholarship fundraiser. A loaded baked potato dinner with dessert will be served.

The April 1 market report from Mills County Commission Co. follows. Total receipts: 2,850. Previous week: 2,822. Trends: Light kids $10 lower. Slaughter kids $5-$10 lower; slaughter nannies $10 lower; replacement nannies steady.

Wildflowers in full bloom despite February’s hard freeze

Texas native bluebonnets and other wildflowers are here. After harsh winter weather, experts at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center say Texans can look forward to a wonderful spring wildflower season.

The report from the April 7 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 503, compared to 458 las sale and 79 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feede steers and heifers were steady Slaughter cows were $2-$4 higher, and slaughter bulls were steady to $2 higher.
