County adopts new rules for burning

Before attempting to burn a few items outside, county residents should look at the latest ordinance adopted by the Lampasas County Commissioners Court. On Monday, the court adopted a 10-item law that clarifies when, where and what is allowed for burning.

Travel club visits alpaca farm

Members of the Central Texas Travel Club recently visited the Peekaranch Alpaca Farm near Burton. The group had a day tour to visit the farm, the historic Burton Cotton Gin and Museum, railroad depot, Mt. Zion Chapel and cemetery, and the Giddings-Stone Mansion in Brenham.

Get entries ready now for County Fair

It is time to begin thinking about entries for the 2021 Lampasas County Fair, held during the Spring Ho festival week. This year, the County Fair will be sponsored by the 36 Club. Entries will be accepted July 7 from 4-7 p.m. in the conference room of the county annex building, 409 S. Pecan St.

HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY

Howard Payne University in Brownwood recently honored 67 students for their academic achievements at its Academic Awards Convocation. Several Lampasas County residents were among those recognized for special distinctions. Monica Garza of Kempner received the Honor Award in Spanish.

Jail completes move to bigger facility

After four years, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court can take “Jail Project 2017” off its agenda. In early March, Sheriff Jess Ramos and the sheriff’s department hosted an open house to celebrate the opening of the county’s new law enforcement center on Barnes Street.

LHS ends two strokes away from state title

Elizabeth Cross had her career-low score at the 4A girls’ state tournament on Monday and Tuesday. As a team, Lampasas placed third, two strokes behind champion Argyle and runnerup Andrews. Tuesday’s round was cut short in the final holes as lightning was reported a few miles from the course in Kyle.
