Cattle raisers association says court decision is a victory for ranchers

The Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association says the immediate seizure of livestock by law enforcement authorities is almost unheard of in this state. But when that happened to a herd of cattle northeast of Goliad in South Texas, TSCRA members got involved.

Lampasas City Council begins budget talks for fiscal year 2022

Budget talks began this week for the city of Lampasas with a proposed fiscal year 2022 budget that will not include an increase in utility or tax rates.

Saturday is National Mutt Day

This mutt’s name is Tie, and he is 6 years old. He’s been at the Lampasas Animal Shelter since May and is looking for a forever home. Shelter staff describe him as fun, caring and full of energy. Tie is also good with other animals and children. MONIQUE BRAND | DISPATCH RECORD

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Brian Clyde Powell, listed as homeless, entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram and was found guilty.

ARRESTS

The following arrests were reported to the Lampasas Dispatch Record by area law enforcement officials. The Dispatch Record prints the name and charge(s) of people arrested on at least one Class B misdemeanor – or more serious – charge.

CATTLE AUCTION

The July 28 Lampasas Cattle Auction report follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 391, compared to 324 last sale and 459 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were $1-$3 higher.

Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association to meet Tuesday

After 15 months of no in-person meetings, the Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association will host an old-fashioned potluck lunch Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. The social event will be in the fellowship hall at First Street Church of Christ, located at 201 W. First St. in Lampasas.
