Less than 24 hours after justice of the peace Andrew Garcia Jr. officially retired, another Lampasan has taken the helm for Precinct 1. Former county court clerk Misty Wakeman took over Garcia’s office Friday morning and will complete the remainder of his term.

COVID-19 cases decline in Lampasas County, statewide

Lampasas Fire Chief Jeff Smith, who serves as the city’s emergency coordinator, has reported a drop in coronavirus cases statewide and locally. Texas had 262,786 active cases as of Sept. 27. Two weeks prior, the total was 303,932. Locally, a decrease in COVID-19 also has been noted.

Fall is here, y’all! Two weeks ago, the Central Texas area experienced its first cool front of the season. According to the National Weather Service, this marks the time of year when cold fronts will start to knock down temperatures.

Operation Christmas Child to hold countdown event

A Countdown Celebration will take place Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 182 Old Austin Rd. in Lampasas. This event will kick off the Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift collection season for the Mid-Texas Area. National collection week is Nov. 15-22.
