Lometa city budget decreases, but property tax rate rises

The Lometa City Council held a public hearing last week on the Fiscal Year 2022 budget and tax rate. Although Mayor Pro Tem Marsha Laughlin opened the floor to the public, no members of the community offered input.

Historical monument relocated

A historical marker that had stood on the grounds of the former jail on East Fourth Street was moved to the Lampasas County Museum Wednesday morning. Precinct 3 Commissioner Lewis Bridges was on hand to help with the move.

Woman dies in crash south of Evant

A San Antonio woman died Oct. 1 after a fatal crash in Lampasas County. About 10:30 p.m., DPS troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 281 south of Evant.

City officials discuss potential airport hangar

An inaugural workshop with the Lampasas City Council and the city’s Airport Advisory Board was held last week to review potential projects and needs. One project would add a hangar at the Lampasas Municipal Airport to house privately owned planes through a multi-year lease.

Two Lometa police officers have submitted their resignations. Officers Jesus Cerda and Raymond Lazard have not worked since Sept. 3 and Sept.17, respectively. Both cited “hostile work conditions” as the reason for their resignations.

Lampasas Fire Department selects Jon-Paul Harris to serve as city’s new fire marshal

The city of Lampasas and the Lampasas Fire Department announced Wednesday the creation of two new positions and the recent promotions of personnel within the department. Capt. Jon-Paul Harris has been promoted as deputy fire chief and fire marshal.
