Lampasas County was practically shut down for two days, as were surrounding counties, due to the latest winter storm to hit the state. The storm made its way to Texas in the late hours of Feb. 2, with freezing rain and high winds.

As Lampasas County heads into election primary season, the political scene is marked by grassroots activity. Clayton Tucker is the chairman of the county’s Democratic Party. Even in a majority “red” county and state, the 30-year-old believes the Democrat competition is good for democracy.

EARLY VOTING Lampasas County voters will head to the polls starting Monday through Feb. 25 for early voting for the March 1 primary election. Voting hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays except for Feb. 21, which is a holiday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

John Latham didn’t expect to be a pastor. The Lampasas resident and new pastor of School Creek Baptist Church first went to Tarleton State University, planning to major in wildlife management to become a wildlife conservation manager.
