’36 Club installs new officers; will coordinate County Fair in July

The ’36 Club met May 12 in the fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church of Lampasas for its final meeting and baked potato luncheon before taking a summer hiatus. Juli Chaney called the meeting to order, followed by a prayer and grace offered by Diane Davis.

Orr plea hearing postponed on felony burglary charge

A Georgia man’s plea hearing in a Lampasas County felony case was postponed last week due to medical issues, court officials said.

Lampasas recognizes National Police Week

It is “National Police Week” across the United States, offering an opportunity for officers to be celebrated and recognized for their service. The last few years have been difficult on law enforcement, Lampasas Interim Police Chief Jody Cummings told the Dispatch Record.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Lee Anthony Garcia of Copperas Cove waived arraignment and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Fire department assists with fatal crash

A Burnet man was pronounced dead Sunday night after he traveled off a roadway. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a fatal crash on U.S. Highway 281 in Burnet County at approximately 9:16 p.m.

Lunar eclipse makes appearance in Lampasas

A lunar eclipse was visible in Lampasas County skies on Sunday evening. The 90-minute event could be seen across much of the Earth, best from the Americas and western Africa. A total solar eclipse will be observed in +April 2024. VERONICA BUTLER | DISPATCH RECORD
