Court OKs cybersecurity training, ban on fireworks

Lampasas County employees will receive free cybersecurity training as a result of a decision formalized on Monday.

Woman booked on charge of child endangerment

A 2-year-old child was found wandering alone late the evening of June 8. Around 10:30 p.m. a resident taking a walk contacted the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office after finding the child standing on County Road 4820 near its intersection with Private Road 4816.

Suspect apprehended after alleged vehicle theft

The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple other agencies, responded recently to a report of a stolen vehicle. According to a police report, a Lampasas woman alerted authorities that an acquaintance had taken her 2008 Kia Sorrento without permission.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Marcus Derrin Reed of Lampasas pleaded guilty and was found guilty of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

ARRESTS

The following arrests were reported to the Lampasas Dispatch Record by area law enforcement officials. The Dispatch Record prints the name and charge(s) of people arrested on at least one Class B misdemeanor – or more serious – charge.

GRAND JURY

Lampasas County grand jury convened June 8 to finish the January term. Lampasas County Attorney John Greenwood presented information that resulted in the indictment of John Louis Torres on a charge of assault on a family member with a previous conviction on Aug. 19, 2021.

Fire department changes fund recovery policy

The Lampasas Fire Department has changed billing procedures to recover funds for emergency services, but fire department officials said it won’t affect day-to-day operations or the average Lampasan who has a fender-bender.

State, local agencies urge drivers to slow down

The Texas Department of Transportation has begun a new driver safety initiative. Operation Slowdown, as the program is called, is to remind Texas drivers of the dangers involved with operating a motor vehicle.

Monday’s structure fire leaves one dead, one injured

A fire in a recreational structure early Monday morning resulted in one death, as well as injury to one first responder, officials said. “Around 1 a.m., the Lampasas Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1700 block of East Avenue G,” Lampasas Fire Marshal JP Harris said.
