New date announced for next Green Thumb program

The Green Thumb Program, sponsored by the Highland Lakes Master Gardeners, has had a change of schedule for its next session. The meeting has been moved to July 28 from 1-2 p.m. at the Marble Falls Library, 101 Main St. Guest speaker will be Brett Briant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

Don’t toss those imperfect lettuce leaves, onion tops and strawberry tops into the trash. Instead, convert them into compost right in the garden. Worm and pile composting are great ways to manage these scraps. But if these methods aren’t for you, try trench composting.

A Georgia man’s plea hearing in a Lampasas County felony case was postponed for a second time, court officials said. Michael Marzart Orr, 29, of Savannah, Georgia, was set for a plea hearing June 17 in 27th District Court, but that court date was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

Starbucks construction may cause delays on Key Avenue

City officials want to alert the public of possible delays on Key Avenue/U.S. Highway 183 due to the construction of Lampasas’ Starbucks franchise. On Thursday, the city posted a notification of possible delays on southbound U.S. 183/ Key Avenue that could occur over the next two weeks.

Just two weeks after the death of Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Greg Chapman, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court appointed his replacement. Chapman was elected justice of the peace in 2013. He had planned to retire at the end of this year.

Service set for longtime volunteer firefighter

Donnell Rucker Rathman, known to many as “Duck,” died suddenly in Bedford on June 16, 2022. He was 89. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. June 30 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas, with Pastor Jesse Thornton to officiate.

Lometa ISD approves teacher training stipend

The Lometa Independent School District Board of Trustees met Thursday evening to begin preparations for the next school year, which starts in August. A motion passed unanimously to make 4-H members eligible for extracurricular status.
