St. Mary Catholic Church’s Food Pantry Ministry will hold its monthly drive-through food distribution today from 9:30-11 a.m. All in need are welcome, and no appointment is needed. Come to the church parking lot at 701 N. Key Ave. in Lampasas, and volunteers will load the vehicle with groceries.

KEMPNER BUDGET PROPOSAL

The city of Kempner will hold a public hearing Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 12288 U.S. Highway 190, to present its budget and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. Officials have proposed setting the city tax levy at $0.

Rainbows in the skies

The report from the Aug. 17 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 574, compared to 796 last sale and 648 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, stockers were steady, and feeder steers and heifers were $3-$5 higher. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were steady.

Lampasas Community Garden cultivates growing knowledge

After seeds were planted in the mind of a local gardener, the Lampasas Community Garden has grown to fruition as a source of knowledge and cooperative spirit.

Beto visits Lampasas

Beto O’Rourke, Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Texas, was in Lampasas Thursday as part of his 49-day “Drive for Texas” campaign. The event took place at the former middle school cafeteria on Western Street, with both Democrat and Republican voters in attendance, approximately 285 in total.

Low-water crossing closed

City workers had part of Hackberry Street closed on Thursday afternoon because water had risen over the road after heavy rain.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has announced an all-new digital tag option for this season’s hunt. With licenses available for purchase as of Monday, hunters might consider the new digital tag available from TPWD.
