Future Shakespeares took center stage Friday for Taylor Creek Elementary School’s second annual Poetry Café. Fourth-grade students had the opportunity to show off the poetry skills they have been working on for the last month.

The report from the Feb. 15 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 454, compared to 810 last sale and 509 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers were $2-- $10 higher, heifers $5-$15 higher.

District 68 State Rep. David Spiller (R-Jacksboro) has been appointed to serve on the House Committee on Appropriations, the House Committee on State Affairs and the House Committee on General Investigating. Speaker Dade Phelan announced assignments last week for the 88th Legislative Session.

Sales tax growth continues across the Central Texas area, as February allocations for cities in Lampasas and the surrounding counties climbed this period for all but the city of Burnet.

Facility upgrades are a priority for the Lometa Independent School District this year, and district officials have suggested that a bond would assist the school in the next step of innovation. An informational meeting about the proposed bond took place Feb. 13 at the school cafeteria.

Cub Scouts to host Blue and Gold bash

Lampasas County Cub Scouts will host their annual Blue and Gold event at First United Methodist Church on Feb. 25. The program is open to the public. The event will start at 3 p.m., with Cub Scouts serving a complimentary taco dinner. Awards begin at 3:30 p.m., with a cake auction to follow at 4 p.
