Celebrating Arts in the Park

The Lampasas Association for the Arts will host its Arts in the Park for Kids event at Campbell Park on April 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. LAFTA board member Cathy Kuehne said the event will be a celebration of the arts.

Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel acquires second location in Copperas Cove

Viss Family Funeral Home in Copperas Cove has been acquired by Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel and Cremations of Lampasas. The firm announced the acquisition last week in a news release. The addition will become the second funeral home location for new owners Zach and Courtney Carnley.

Lampasas County offices, plus the municipal offices in Lampasas, Lometa and Kempner will be closed Friday to observe a holiday for Good Friday. The Dispatch Record office also will be closed Friday. Regular business hours will resume on April 10.

Proposed Bypass Creates Concern for Lampasas

LAMPASAS -- Until recently, there did not appear to be any widespread clamor among area residents regarding possible construction of a bypass route around Lampasas. That changed when TxDOT conducted two town hall meetings here in 2022 to seek interest in a potential traffic relief route.

Medical status improves for youth hospitalized after tunnel collapse

Thirteen days after being rushed to the hospital, 9-year-old Luke Sappenfield and his 15-year-old brother Hunter are on the road to recovery. On March 19, the boys were rescued after a tunnel they dug along the Lampasas River behind the River Place neighborhood collapsed on top of them.

Happy National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day

On March 29, Wings of Eagles Outreach members recognized Burke and Janice Brown for their 60-plus years of business ownership in the Lampasas community. Brown, pictured at left, joined his father as a partner in the feed store in 1960.
