Kempner sales tax election nears

On May 6, the city of Kempner will hold a special election to raise the sales tax rate levied within the city. An increase would raise the local sales tax portion dedicated to streets from 0.25% to 0.5%.

LAFTA event offers celebration of the fine arts

From a dozen art activity tables to live entertainment, Saturday’s Arts in the Park for Kids had it all. The event, hosted at Campbell Park by the Lampasas Association for the Arts, serves as an avenue to engage youngsters in the arts.

The end of an era

Forty-two years ago, Dr. Scott Rushing rolled into Lampasas and hung out his shingle. He bought the clinic in March 1981 from Dr. Seth B. Donelson, and he has practiced veterinary medicine here since that time. Now he is anticipating the next phase of life as he plans for retirement next month.

4-H meetings on tap

Lampasas 4-H will offer several meetings over the next few days. On Monday, the 4-H Club general meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Lampasas County Show Barn, 283 North U.S. Highway 183/190. Guest speaker Alaine Heivilin will give a presentation on bees.

Lometa’s One-Act Play advances to regionals

The road to One-Act Play state competition has continued for Lometa High School, which qualified for the regional round of competition. The regional meet will take place at Waxahachie High School on April 21. Lometa performed well in the area round of competition, held in Stephenville.
