In 2022, the idea of becoming a lead pastor started to weigh on the mind of James Sturgeon. While serving as the worship pastor at Cherokee Baptist Church, he knew God was asking him to do more. “A call more than anything,” Sturgeon said of what prompted him.

Commencement set for tonight at Hornet Gym to celebrate the Class of 2023

The Lometa High School Class of 2023 will celebrate the culmination of its years together with a graduation program tonight at 8 p.m. in Hornet Gymnasium. Graduates will file in during the playing of “Pomp and Circumstance.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Joshua Levi Jackson of Kempner was sentenced to four years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for evading arrest/ detention with a vehicle or watercraft.

Texas Department of Transportation crews began seal coating work on FM 580 West this week, starting from the intersection of Key Avenue and FM 580 West (North Avenue) and continuing past the city limits on the Farm-to-Market road.

Mayor, two new council members sworn in on Monday

The city of Lampasas saw a changing of the guard Monday evening, as a new mayor and two new council members were sworn into office. Council member Herb Pearce will serve this term as the city’s mayor, and Charles Pratus and Eric Hernandez have joined the council dais.
