Hines resigns from Lometa’s Board of Trustees

Lometa ISD’s Board of Trustees met Thursday, with procedural updates and handbook confirmations at the forefront. In addition, the board will have to replace one of its trustees, as longtime member John Hines resigned prior to the meeting.

Now with new owners, the historic depot could see further development and become a railroad museum with a locomotive on display, a barbecue restaurant added and other features to make it a tourist destination. Apair of Lampasas residents are seeking to return the historic Santa Fe Depot property to its former glory.At Wednesday’s Lampasas Economic Development board meeting, Keystone Star Hotel owner Andy Fish said two Lampasans purchased the depot property in May from Austin businessman Rick Hardin.

SAFE Lampasas – an organization Supporting Animals, Facilities and Employees of the Lampasas Animal Shelter – is planning a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater event to benefit the shelter. Auditions for acting parts will be held next week.

Area lakes all full after recent rains

Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir has maintained high water levels since the heavy rains of May 2024 filled it to capacity. After dropping only a few feet over the past year, recent rains have replenished it to the 100% “full” status as reported by Water Data for Texas.
ERICK MITCHELL | DISPATCH RECORD Work crews and equipment are preparing the U.S. Highway 281 South roadway for a new traffic configuration that the Texas Depatment of Transportation said will allow motorists to drive on the travel lanes on the west side of the highway. For now, the intersection at Naruna Road remains closed, and the Sulphur Creek bridge at Business 281 remains closed to through traffic.

TxDOT to continue construction along U.S. 281

The Texas Department of Transportation’s construction efforts along U.S. Highway 281 South resumed Monday in preparation for a new traffic pattern.The project that started in February 2024 is estimated to be completed in May 2026.

City Council hears budget proposals from department heads
