Grass fire nearly engulfs nearby homes

A grass fire on Jackrabbit Lane came close to homes on that street in Kempner on Wednesday afternoon. According to Kempner Volunteer Fire Department Chief Connie Green, the fire was only 15 feet from one residence. Based on aerial estimates, the wildfire encompassed approximately 10 acres of land.

GRAND JURY

Lampasas County grand jury convened Wednesday to start the July 2023 term. Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators Matt Barnes, Wayne Hilgenberg and Nick Roberts presented information that resulted in indictments against: Anthony Joe Seale on a charge of tamper with evidence on April 15.

Lampasas ISD releases school supply list

With the first day of the 2023-24 school year scheduled for Aug. 10, parents soon will begin the task of purchasing school supplies for their students. Supplies can be brought on the first day of school, or the items may be brought to campus on Meet the Teacher Night, scheduled Aug.

CATTLE AUCTION

The report from the July 12 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 708, compared to 487 last sale and 826 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers were $7-$10 higher; heifers $3-$5 lower. Slaughter cows $3-$5 higher, and slaughter bulls $1-$3 higher.

Former Kempner mayor arrested on criminal charges

A former Kempner mayor was arrested on criminal charges Tuesday. Keith Lanard Harvey, 51, was arrested on charges of assault of a family member causing bodily injury, indecent assault, and interfering with an emergency call – all Class A misdemeanors.

City implements Stage 2 water conservation

After a plea for public water conservation by Kempner Water Supply Corp., the city of Lampasas implemented its Stage 2 Water Conservation & Drought Contingency Plan on Tuesday. The goal of Stage 2 water conservation is to achieve a 10% reduction in total water use or daily water demand.

Commissioners Court approves HOP funding

In a 3-2 vote that followed a deep discussion, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court approved funding for the Hill Country Transit District, better known as “the HOP,” during Monday’s meeting.

The Lampasas Independent School District will hold prekindergarten through 12th-grade registration on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lampasas High School cafeteria, 2716 South U.S. Highway 281. Only students new to the district need to register.

Services set for former city administrator Dale Henry

Kenneth Dale Henry, 91, died on July 8, 2023, at his home in Kerrville. Henry had been an administrator for the city of Lampasas in the 1970s. Services will be July 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Pompey Mountain Church in Mills County. Burial will follow at Duren Cemetery.
