Kempner Baptist Church to celebrate 140th anniversary later this month

First Baptist Church of Kempner will celebrate its 140th anniversary of ministry with a special service June 23.Senior Pastor James Sturgeon, who is entering his second year at the Kempner church, said he is blessed to lead the congregation that has stood the test of time.

Masonic Lodge plans special meetings in June

Saratoga Lodge #546 of Lampasas will hold two called meetings in June.On June 10 at 7 p.m., the public is invited to join for the presentation of a Community Builder Award. A Master Masons-only meeting has been called for June 12.The lodge is at 1209 Central Texas Expressway.

Gardening helps grow healthy, happy kids

Gardeners know and research is proving that gardening, even viewing a garden, as well as spending time in nature is good for the mind, body and spirit. It improves strength and flexibility, lowers blood pressure and elevates our moods.This is also true for the youngsters in our lives.

Summer College for Kids classes announced

The Lampasas County Higher Education Center will host four courses in its College for Kids program, which begins in June.Available classes include “The Case of the Missing Mascot,” babysitter’s trainer with pediatric CPR, “Nuts for Needlepoint” and dog/cat CPR plus basic aid training.

Community Bridge to continue this summer

The Community Bridge group met May 13 for six rounds of bridge, with lunch in the middle.Winners for the day were Sue Whited, first; Jim Hutchinson, second; and Christine Vann, third.Christine Vann and Carolyn Anderson won the prize for the highest single round, and Judy Smith took the low prize.

Central Texas College Lampasas Site Director Janice Allen is shifting locations from Lampasas High School to the Lampasas County Higher Education Center.Allen will assist those in the community with academic advising, CTC class registration, GED or ESL courses and potential additional classes.

Lampasas Trails awarded $25,00 grant

Lampasas Trails, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and maintaining bike trails, will be able to complete the first phase of a trail project, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the city of Lampasas.
