Museum exhibit celebrates 150 years of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church

Lampasas County Museum is pleased to help celebrate 150 years of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the oldest church building with continuous worship services in Lampasas County. The exhibition, which opens today, will be on display at the museum through Nov. 1.

SCV group participates in Oatmeal Festival

Bertram’s 48th annual Oatmeal Festival pays honor to the community of Oatmeal in Burnet County. Launched in 1978 by Ken Odiorne as a playful spoof on chili cookoffs, this weekend event draws hundreds of participants and raises money for youth scholarships.The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp No.

Animals need blessings, too

Local animal lovers gathered at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church recently for the Blessing of the Pets. Besides a blessing from the Rev. Bill Fowler, pets were treated to plenty of water and small “pup cups” of whipped cream. The annual event honors Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

Kempner’s Trunk or Treat returns Oct. 31

The city of Kempner’s Trunk or Treat event, slated for Oct. 31, will be spookier and more candy-filled than ever before.For the first time, this year’s event will be held at the Sylvia Tucker Memorial Park from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Lometa ISD holds open house for CTE facilty

Lometa ISD unveiled its new 14,200-square-foot Advanced Technical Center during Tuesday’s open house.The building is utilized by robotics, drone, digital media, ag mechanics and health science students.

AdventHealth Central Texas names new CEO

Jennifer Swenson has been named president and chief executive officer for AdventHealth Central Texas and AdventHealth Rollins Brook. She will assume the new role on Oct. 20 and will report to Trevor Wright, president/CEO of AdventHealth’s Southwest Region.

’36 Club opens new year

In September, the GFWC ’36 Club welcomed members back to the first meeting to kick off the new season. A catered lunch was provided by the Social Committee and included brisket and chicken from Nothin’ Butts BBQ. Social Committee members also provided homemade desserts.

Lometa superintendent reports school off to good start

The Lometa Independent School District Board of Trustees met Sept. 22 for its monthly gathering, which dealt mostly with updates.Superintendent Rob Moore began the meeting by recognizing the students and staff member of the month before discussing various reports.
