Wings of Eagles hosts Violence in Teen Dating workshop

February usually is associated with Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, but it also earns recognition as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. On Monday, Wings of Eagles Outreach hosted a workshop to educate teens about dating violence.

Bridge players gather

Six tables of bridge competed recently at the Community Bridge monthly games day. Linda Williams placed first, Beth Griess was second, and Tom Casbeer took third place. No one won the slam prize. Pattie Spradley and Barbara Smith were the hostesses. The next session will be March 13 at 1 p.m.

Straley-Canales wedding held on New Year’s Eve

Ashton Elizabeth Straley and Drakkar Dekayn Canales were wed Dec. 31, 2022 in a 5 p.m. ceremony at La Cantera Resort and Spa in San Antonio. The bride is the daughter of Robert and Alicia Straley of Lampasas.

Animal shelter broadens its volunteer opportunities

The Lampasas Animal Shelter has expanded volunteer opportunities available and opened a kitten foster program. The shelter announced the launch of a brandnew online volunteer management platform on Friday morning.

Butler wins Lonestar Writing Award

Lampasas High School junior and Dispatch Record intern Roni Butler received a first-place award in the Lonestar Writing Contest last week. The annual journalistic competition is sponsored jointly by the Texas Press Association and Interscholastic League Press Conference.
