How U.S. 281 expansion will affect area landowners

Body
According to what I heard and understood from the meeting on Feb. 7, 2023 presented by the Texas Department of Transportation and open to the public, TxDOT wants to expand U.S. 281 to meet the state’s growing population needs for transportation of goods and services, and to make that transportation as safe as possible for those traveling on it.

Has liberty died in our hearts?

Late last week, a judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court revealed that he had had enough of the FBI and Congress trashing the Constitution. The normally secretive court and the normally secretive judge explained in a rare public opinion the unlawful behavior of FBI agents spying on ordinary Americans in violation of the Fourth Amendment.

Kudos to all who played a part in repair of the Kempner Water Supply Corp. transmission line that carries water to the residents of Lampasas. The work was completed well ahead of the anticipated repair window, and service seems to have been restored quickly to those who were without water.

Pew research: Democrats value free speech far less than Republicans

Body
In case you were in doubt -- and if you were in doubt, that means you aren’t following what is happening in America to the most important freedom of all -- Pew Research has confirmed that Democrats value free speech far less than Republicans do. Inever thought I would see the day that the United States of America would be so weak, so willfully blind to falsehood and so cowed by ignorance. And yet that is where we are. The consequences of our poor decisions as a people are everywhere.

How property tax relief took shape in 2023

Body
When property owners received their 2023 proposed appraisal valuation notices in May, most Lampasas County owners took no action. However, many property owners were shocked by what their appraisal notices proposed, some seeing appraised values increased by more than 900%. That is 9 times what their valuation was in 2022. Many filed property valuation protests with the Lampasas Central Appraisal District.

Time to slay the DEI Leviathan

On Thursday, Stanford Law School Dean Jenny Martinez announced that its embattled associate dean for “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” Tirien Steinbach, had resigned. Steinbach’s all but assuredly forced “resignation” followed an outpouring of disgust from Americans revolted by her antics during the Stanford Federalist Society student chapter’s attempted hosting in March of a speech by U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Judge Kyle Duncan, which was constantly disrupted by outlandish student behavior and ultimately canceled. Steinbach’s resignation represents a modicum of justice following a grievous wrong. Now, Steinbach will have plenty of time to mull whether the “juice” of her abetting an obstreperous law school student woke mob was worth the “squeeze” of her eventual dismissal.

The biblical concept of marriage

Body
1. Nowhere in the Bible is marriage ever mentioned as anything other than a union between a man and a woman. Never is marriage spoke of as a union between a man and a man, or a union between a woman and a woman. Samesex marriage is a human concept, not a biblical concept.
