Lifelong Lampasas County rancher and longtime bank director Joseph Henry Langford died at his home March 11, 2021 at the age of 82.

Services will be held March 13 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lampasas, with a graveside service to follow at School Creek Cemetery. Sneed Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

After the graveside service, there will be time to visit with the family at School Creek Baptist Church.

Henry Langford was born April 20, 1938, to John B. and Ruth Nuckles Langford in Lampasas. He grew up on the banks of the Lampasas River in northeast Lampasas County.

In his early years of education, he attended Unity School in Unity Community until it merged with the Lampasas school district. He graduated from Lampasas High School in the Class of 1956.

Upon completion of high school, he joined the National Guard.

In 1957, Henry married Bobbie Jean Smith of Gatesville. She preceded him in death in 1962.

On July 16, 1966, he married Camille McCann of Lometa, and they were married for 54 years and had three children.

Henry was the third generation of Langfords to farm and ranch the land where he worked alongside his father, brother, and then his two sons and son-in-law. He raised cattle, sheep and goats, and farmed hay, wheat and oats.

He was a member of the Texas Farm Bureau Board of Directors for six years. Henry was named Young Farmer and Rancher of the Year, and later Farmer and Rancher of the Year by Farm Bureau.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved country and western music, and especially loved fiddle music. He had been a member of School Creek Baptist Church for 73 years, where he served as a church deacon for 58 years.

Henry served on the Lampasas Independent School District Board of Trustees for six years. He also served on the Farm Service Agency county committee for 47 years. He was a Hamilton County Electric Cooperative director from 1978-2020. He also served on the First Texas Bank Board of Directors for 34 years, from 1986-2020.

Henry was preceded in death by his first wife; his brother, John Bert Langford; and a sister, Jean Marie Langford.

Survivors include his wife, Camille McCann Langford; daughter, Alicia Elizabeth Straley (Robert); sons Henry John Langford (Kimberley) and Asa Gordan Langford (Jonna); sister, Alice Rush; grandchildren David Henry Straley (Delaney), Ashton Straley, John Brock Langford, Henry Tate Langford, Tenley Langford and Tye Langford; and several nieces and nephews.
