Doris M. Griffin Poe of Lampasas died Sept. 23, 2022 at the age of 91.
Doris was born Dec. 25, 1930 in Round Top to Moody E. Henniger and Ella E. Stork.
In 1932, Doris and her family moved to San Saba County, to Bend where she attended Bend School through eighth grade before she transferred and attended school at Nix for two years. Doris finished her high school education and graduated at Lampasas High School in 1949.
She furthered her education by attending both Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos and Jackson Business School in Lampasas. Doris was married on Nov. 23, 1950 to Melvin W. Griffin, son of Raymond Griffin and Martha Carpenter Griffin of Lampasas. They were married 34 years and had four children. Mr. Griffin died in 1984 of cancer.
Doris then married Bobby Dale Poe of Lometa in 2006, and they were married for 13 years. Doris enjoyed many things in life. She enjoyed quilting and restoring quilts. She made many wedding cakes in her lifetime as well.
She belonged to the Texas Home Demonstration Club in Burnet County for 71 years. She served on the board of the Soil Conservation Service and the Board of Directors for Texas Farm Bureau.
Doris worked for O’Neil Oil in Lampasas for 20-plus years. She was a farmer, rancher and gardener most of her life, and she loved her family and friends.
Doris is survived by her brother, Calvin Henniger of Pasadena, Texas; children Clifford R. Griffin of Lampasas and Yolanda Kae Maceyra (Bill) of Lampasas; daughters-in-law Nancy Griffin of Lampasas and Bonnie Griffin of Lampasas; stepchildren Bryce Poe of Lometa, Bobby Dale Poe Jr. (Amy) of Houston, Barry Poe (Tammy) of Lampasas, Betsy Poe of Austin, Beverly Maddox (Jimmy) of Lometa and Lori Poe of Early; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her brother R.J. Henniger of Bend; husbands Melvin Griffin and Bobby Dale Poe; and sons Daniel Griffin and Douglas Griffin, both of Lampasas, and Brent Poe of Early.
A graveside memorial service will be held Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Alexander Family Cemetery. Dr. William Kirby will officiate.
