Mrs. Herring

Thelma Herring of Lampasas, 100, died Oct. 29, 2021.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1921 in Belton to F.E. and Estelle Hayter.

A graduate of Belton High School, Thelma and D.C. Herring were married on Aug. 3, 1941. They had celebrated 52 years of marriage at the time of D.C.'s death in 1992.

Thelma was a salesperson for J.C. Penney in Lampasas for over 20 years and enjoyed assisting customers.

She enjoyed being around her family, and she looked forward to vacations and holidays with her family. Thelma especially enjoyed traveling with the bank travel club to many vacation spots in the United States.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Kempner. Although she struggled with dementia the last years of her life, her family said there were four things dementia never took from Thelma: her love of God, the love she had for her family, her gratitude for those who took care of her and her sense of humor.

Thelma Herring was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Hayter and Alvie Hayter; four sisters, Veda Mae Clarkston, Nell Webb, Ruth Hayter and Alice Van Dyke; and a son, Larry Neal Herring of Kempner.

She is survived by a son, Glen Herring (Denise) of Lampasas; a daughter, Darlene Rutland (Jim) of Lampasas; 11 grandchildren, Steve (Andreas) Herring of Lampasas, Tracy Herring of Cedar Park, B.J. Herring of Lampasas, Kris Herring of Kempner, Jase (Malea) Herring of Lampasas, Jeremy (Jennica) Herring of Lampasas, Kasey (Joe) Schwartzer of Lampasas, David (Beth) Rutland of Aledo, Mark (Julie) Rutland of San Antonio, Jeff (Stephanie) Rutland of Lampasas and Ben (Alisan) Rutland of Plano; 18 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Ima Locklear, of Temple; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held Nov. 1 at Sneed Funeral Chapel.

Graveside services will be held at Kempner Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Nov. 2.
