Nedra Elmina Banks was born Aug. 25, 1938 in the Grassland community in Garza County, Texas to Wesley Alvin Morris and Valeria Dalton. The family moved to Lampasas when she was young.

She died May 2, 2024 in Austin.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon May 8 at Heritage Funeral Home. The service will be at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery, U.S. Highway 183 and FM 963 in Burnet County.

Elmina married Delbert H. Banks on Oct. 11, 1951, in Lampasas when she was 13 years old. They were married for 68 years until his death in April 2019.

Elmina and Delbert later moved to West Texas and ultimately settled in Lubbock. They owned and operated Dapper Dan dry cleaners for a number of years.

Elmina went into the technology industry when they sold the cleaners. She worked for Texas Instruments for eight years and then transferred to Signetics/Intel Corp. for 16 years until her retirement in 2000.

She and Delbert returned to the Watson community in Burnet County on the land where Delbert was raised.

Elmina loved working outside and taking care of her garden and fruit trees. She spent many hours preparing jellies from the fruits of her trees and mustang grapes found in the Watson area. She loved to bake pies for anyone she met. She also loved to play cards and chicken foot with her friends and family.

Elmina loved volunteering to work at youth church camp each year at Camp Hensel alongside her son Randy Banks. She looked forward to preparing meals and snacks for the more than 250 kids and staff. Many friends and memories were made at Camp Hensel, and she often talked about how much she enjoyed it. She lived a life of service for others.

Elmina was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Banks; brothers Wayland Morris and Weldon Hulsey; her parents and stepmother, Edna Morris.

She is survived by daughters Glenda Darlene Browning of Austin, and Janice Marlene Stevens and husband Marty of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sons Richard Glenn Banks of Lubbock, and Randall Kevin Banks and wife Jamie of Austin; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous.
