A county burn ban was in effect at press time Thursday morning. The ban applies outside Lampasas, Kempner and Lometa city limits.
The county order prohibits many types of outdoor fires -- including open campfires, as well as brush fires that do not meet specific conditions.
A violation of the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $500.
