Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Rashad Valento Byron Parkinson of Copperas Cove received 12 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on a charge of sexual assault of a child.

Lometa officials confirm internal investigation

Lometa city officials have confirmed there is an ongoing investigation taking place at the municipal level, but they have been mum on the details. Mayor Stephen Brister Hicks confirmed that an investigation is taking place in a matter of misapplication of fiduciary property, but he deferred all questions to Lometa Chief of Police Melissa Cantu.

The Friday night high school football tradition is set to commence for another season at Badger Field, and the stadium is decorated with new flags displaying school and state pride. Lampasas will compete tonight with the Elgin Wildcats in a Senior Night matchup at the home stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Lampasas Public Library will host a dog adoption event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park area behind the library. Dogs from Lampasas Animal Shelter will be available to adopt at no cost. Yard games also will be set up to enjoy.
