As Will Rogers once said, “A farmer has to be an optimist, or he wouldn’t still be a farmer.” For this year’s hay forecast, that could not be a more accurate statement. As Lampasas County heads into the cooler months, there is good news and bad news.

L-M Garden and Civic Club journeyed to San Saba on Oct. 16 to visit the vineyard of Trish Fullerton. She gave the group a tour and described in depth how a vineyard is started and maintained. Fullerton explained the pruning technique that allows the vines to produce grapes in abundance.

The wild pig population in Texas is estimated at 2.6 million, and it continues to grow. Wild pigs feed on almost any agricultural crop they can find. Their rooting damages cropland, pastureland, native rangeland as well as lawns and gardens.
