City cautions residents about illegal dumping

City officials have expressed concerns about what they term illegal dumping on city-owned property.In a letter to Lampasas residents, Interim City Manager Erin Harrison noted that unauthorized disposal of trash, brush, construction debris or any other materials on public land is prohibited.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge Debbie Garrett presiding over the day’s hearings.Defendant Ray Anthony Valles of Lampasas pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated-third or more and was found guilty.

TPWD seeks changes on state rules for mountain lion hunting

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has proposed new rules for hunters and trappers to report mountain lion harvests.Mountain lions are relatively uncommon, secretive animals that once roamed across the entire United States, but today they are limited largely to the western third of the country.

Area-wide soaking fills creeks across county

Cherokee Creek near Bend runs over a low-water crossing after the area received about 3.7 inches from May 19-26. The Lower Colorado River Authority reported a moderate rise in creeks and rivers after a prolonged wet spell this month. Cherokee Creek rose from around 4.

Commissioners agree to continue indigent defense position

With few action items on the table, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court kept it short in Tuesday’s regular meeting.

LCHEC no longer in operation

The Lampasas County Higher Education Center has dissolved officially and no longer is active.According to former LCHEC Director Derrick Berrios, who left his position in September 2025, the facility closed in April due to funding issues.
