A tall order for firefighters

A few curious, long-necked exotic residents watched the activities of the Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department as the crew extinguished a five-acre grass fire in Lampasas County on Thursday. LVFD responded to the 13000 block of West FM 580 near Lometa at 4:32 p.m.

Community Garden tea party planned for Aug. 17

Tea Fit for a Queen, a Lampasas Community Garden fundraising event, is set for Aug. 17.The tea party is hosted by First Presbyterian Church and will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.Tickets are $25 per person, and all ages are welcome.

Women in Ag Conference set for Sept. 10-11

Tarrant County AgriLife Extension Agency will host the Second Annual Women in Ag Conference on Sept. 10-11.This year's event will take place at the Fort Worth Stock Yards. The conference is designed to assist farm and ranch women in problem-solving, recordkeeping and decision-making skills.

English country dance night slated

Those looking to participate in English country dances are invited come Aug. 21 from 6-9 p.m. to 1177 County Road 3010 in Lampasas.The evening entertainment is offered with a $5 entry fee “if you come ready to dance without your phone,” said hostess Greta Atkinson.

Water line upgrades made

Last week, city crews spent time inserting a water line in the alley behind South Live Oak Street to aid a fire suppression system for a downtown business on the courthouse square. The work required a portion of East Third Street to be closed between Western Avenue and South Live Oak.
