Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the short docket for the day’s hearings.Defendant Billy Joe Fralin of Lampasas had an attorney assigned for him, and his arraignment hearings have been moved to Oct 25.

Circus to perform two shows Monday

The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be in Lampasas Monday, setting up at the corner of East North Avenue and South Western.The circus is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lampasas. Proceeds will be used for scholarships to both Lampasas ISD and Lometa ISD students.Shows will be offered at 5 p.m.

Tickets available for library’s Barbecue for Books meal

The Library Foundation’s annual Barbecue for Books fundraiser will take place Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Lampasas Public Library.A chopped beef sandwich with chips, homemade Texas sheet cake and a bottled water can be picked up curbside at 201 S. Main.

Although former Lometa police chief Melissa Cantu is set for jury announcement on Oct. 18, whether or not the case will go to trial this month is still in question.Cantu, accused in a Lometa wiretapping case, is scheduled for jury trial in the 27th District Court of Lampasas County the week of Oct.
