Student offers program on bat colony for L-M Garden Club

The L-M Garden and Civic Club of Lometa held its October meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Garden Club Center.After Halloween refreshments and fellowship, 12-yearold Colin Highley gave a program on bats. His love for gardening, the outdoors and bats were very apparent.
Recognized as Star Supporter of the Month was Beth Oestreich, an instructional technologist at Lampasas High School. “She has had many challenges throughout this year, and she has handled them all with grace,” Assistant Principal Ryan Race said. Squared Silly festival set for Saturday

Dust off your costumes and prep for an onslaught of candy! The annual Squared Silly fall festival will take place Saturday from 5-7:30 p.m. around the Lampasas courthouse square.The event will include a haunted house, a costume contest, a haunted hayride, games, a bouncy house, treats and more.

Transportation summit scheduled for Central Texas

Central Texas Council of Governments and Killeen-Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a Central Texas Public Transportation Summit on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Civic Center.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings.Defendant Wesley Lyn Strambler of Freeport entered a plea of guilty to a charge of theft of property greater than or equal to $2,500 and less than $30,000.

County judge provides update on courthouse renovation project

Renovations for the historic Lampasas County Courthouse are expected to begin in January or February of 2025, according to County Judge Randy Hoyer.Additionally, the county is working to establish a storage facility behind the county annex buildings to house unused accessories and documents.

Barbecue fundraiser supports library

Cars pull up outside the Lampasas Public Library on Monday to pick up barbecue sandwich lunches that included a slice of Texas chocolate sheet cake for dessert. The Library Foundation’s annual Barbecue for Books event was a big success, organizers said.

Early voting brings large turnout

Lampasas County residents showed up in big numbers Monday to cast their ballots for the first day of early voting. Many were not shy to describe what brought them to the polls.

Water service restored

A concrete main line that suffered a break Tuesday was repaired as of Thursday morning, and water service has been restored to those affected after about 36 hours of interrupted service.The leak prompted the city of Lampasas to initiate Stage 5 water conservation measures on Tuesday.
