Preparing for the holidays

City workers were busy this week getting the county courthouse and downtown area ready to shine for Christmas. After securing the star atop the clock tower, holiday lights were strung around the courthouse square in preparation for the annual celebration of Christ’s birth.

American Legion Post 277 will put flags on veterans’ graves at Oak Hill Cemetery Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Volunteers are welcome.The post also will hold a short wreath-laying ceremony at the courthouse Monday at 11 a.m.

Trump takes early lead with Texas voters

An hour following the close of the polls, Trump had taken the lead among Texas voters. According to the Texas Secretary of State unofficial totals, as of 8:15 p.m. and with 120 of 254 counties reporting, Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and J.D.

Verdict: not guilty

Nearly a year after an accusation of wiretapping that led to her arrest, former Lometa police chief Melissa Cantu was acquitted of the felony charges on Oct. 28.Cantu faced a trial by jury last Monday in the 27th District Court of Lampasas County, where defense attorney R.C.

Lampasas Middle School will offer a special program Nov. 8 as a salute to Veterans Day and military service personnel. Veterans are invited to have breakfast in the middle school cafeteria, beginning at 8:30 a.m., then join students in Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium at 9:15 a.m. for the program.
