Council OKs more grants for Kempner Police Department

Kempner Police Chief Eddie Rodriguez is continuing to seek ways to improve the city’s police department through grants. During last week’s Kempner City Council meeting, council members approved new action for potential upgrades to the police department based on Rodriguez’s requests.

LHS speech, debate, academic teams compete in recent meet

Last weekend, the Lampasas High School speech, debate and academic teams competed in their last invitational tournament before the district competition takes place later this month. The following students placed at the A&M Consolidated UIL Invitational and helped Lampasas bring home lots of hardware, plus the Speech Sweepstakes award.

CX debate team heads to state

The District Cross-Examination debate tournament was held in Lampasas in February, and a team of Badgers is headed to the UIL State CX Tournament. This partner event combines effective communication with quick-thinking debate skills. Pictured from left to right are Phoebe Rounds and Cooper Herring, who placed third and will serve as alternates to state; Cale Wheeler and JT Vasquez, who took second and qualified for the state tournament; and Taylor Anderson and Aaliyah Pena, who placed fourth and also qualified as alternates.

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Raymond Jose Reyna of Goldthwaite had an adjudication hearing, at which he pleaded true to a charge of possession of a controlled substance greater than or equal to 1 gram and less than 4 grams.

Shuford sentenced in felony drug case

A Lampasas teenager pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge Feb.24 in the 27th District Court of Lampasas. Nathan Whitman Shuford, 19, entered a plea of guilty to a charge of manufacture/ delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 2/2-A over 400 grams – a firstdegree felony.
