Candidates address voters, discuss jail project at forum


The Lampasas County Republican Party held a candidate forum last week to offer voters an opportunity to hear from those at the county level who will be on the primary ballot in March.


The Lampasas County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Monday to approve the final plat of a replat of a subdivision in the southeastern corner of the county.

Republicans running for state representative address their background, priorities

Lampasas County Republicans hosted a candidate forum Thursday evening for those on the March 6 Republican Party primary ballot hoping to represent this area.

WT Excavating owner Warren Thornton removes old concrete from a lot at Sixth and Chestnut streets to prepare for construction of a laundromat. The approximately 2,700-square-foot laundromat, called Scrub Tub, is scheduled to open in about 90 days, owner Larry Wornat said.

Firefly Aerospace plans to conduct hold-down tests of rockets in Briggs this spring, and the business expects significant longterm growth.

The company formed in 2017 after its predecessor, Firefly Space Systems, filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy last spring.

While Lampasas Independent School District students were enjoying a day off from class Monday, school board members went to work readying the calendar for next year and holding a public hearing on the district’s Texas Academic Performance Report for 2016-2017.

Mike Mallett works Tuesday morning to scoop ice off a cattle trough on land he leases along County Road 2207. Lampasas had a low temperature of 17 and a high of 31 on Tuesday, making the day 23 degrees colder than normal for that date, according to the National Weather Service.
