Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a Kempner homicide, and the suspect in custody is the son of the deceased.

Myer Nena, 61, died after sustaining injury in an alleged domestic violence incident on Friday. Carson Myer Nena, 28, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a family/household member with a weapon, a first-degree felony.

At 9:31 a.m. Friday, LCSO authorities received a call from single-wide mobile home in the 500 block of Apache Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.

LCSO officials said Gisela Nena, 62, called law enforcement because her stepson, Carson Nena, was at her residence an hour earlier “kicking at her door and trying to gain entry.”

Nena’s husband, Myer, was not home at the time.

About 20 minutes later, two LCSO deputies responded and met with Gisela Nena. They viewed video on a home camera system confirming that Carson had been walking outside the residence holding what appeared to be a stick.

Deputies searched in the immediate area for Carson Nena and recalled they had seen him earlier walking and “carrying what they believed to be a pool cue stick,” a LCSO statement said, but the officers were unable to locate him that morning.

At 3:45 p.m. that afternoon, LCSO dispatchers received an emergency call from an anonymous caller about a man lying on the ground at

the Nena residence, and “it appeared the man had been beat up.” The same deputies responded and arrived at 4:09 p.m. to find Myer Nena on the ground with “severe injuries to his face and head,” LCSO officials said.

The deputies found Gisela Nena lying inside the home on the floor, also with severe injuries to her face and head.

Police said the “suspicious caller” refused to wait at the location and was not present when deputies and Hamilton County EMS arrived.

Myer and Gisela Nena were transported to nearby trauma centers for urgent care.

Officers began an immediate search in the vicinity for Carson Nena.

At about 8:40 p.m., a citizen called the sheriff’s department to report his mother had seen a man matching the suspect’s description running in between homes in the area of Apache Street. Deputies located Carson Nena and took him into custody.

Nena, 28, was booked into Lampasas County Jail on Saturday at 1:14 a.m. on the two felony assault charges.

As of Sunday afternoon, Gisela Nena remained in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at a nearby hospital. Myer Nena died at a Baylor Scott & White Hospital, authorities said.

The investigation is being led by the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers Division and Kempner Police Department.

“We didn’t have officers on duty that day,” Kempner Police Chief Eddie Rodriguez said. “And, in a matter this big, we don’t have the resources, so we would have collaborated with the sheriff’s department or the [Texas] Rangers anyway.”

Kempner Mayor and peace officer John “J.W.” Wilkerson made a statement about the death after he assisted emergency responders for several hours during the incident.

“I ask everyone to please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers,” he said. “Most everyone here in the east end of Lampasas County has not only met Myer but was fortunate enough to know him as a friendly and hard-working individual who would cut up with you when you stopped in at his work.”

As of Monday morning, Carson Nena remained in Lampasas County Jail with bond set at $250,000 per count.
