Pedestrian fatality occurs Saturday evening in town

A 63-year-old Lampasas female was struck by a motor vehicle as she was attempting to cross the road in the 100 block of Central Texas Expressway Saturday evening.

Lampasas Police Department Sgt. Investigator Garrett Bradley said the victim failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. She died at the scene.

According to Bradley, the woman was walking north and attempted to cross at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Central Texas Expressway. A 60-year-old male driving westbound in the outside lane along Central Texas Expressway in a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 hit the woman as she was crossing the street.

Bradley said a witness to the event issued the 911 call at 8:37 p.m., with first responders arriving on the scene two minutes later.

The victim was declared deceased when first responders arrived. The driver of the truck and a 60-year-old female passenger remained on the scene after the incident.

“They checked for pulse, signs of life, and there were no signs of life,” Bradley said. “EMS did arrive, but there were no life-saving measures taken.”

Other agencies that assisted included the Lampasas Fire Department, Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, Hamilton EMS, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The name of the deceased has not been released. A police department spokesperson said that information cannot be released until the medical examiner has made a final determination on the victim’s identity, which was set to occur Friday after the newspaper’s press deadline.
