Texas Water Utilities unveiled its $6.3 million water treatment plant serving Lometa and surrounding areas during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday.
Lometa-area customers previously served by Corix Utilities-Texas became Texas Water Utilities customers in July after a merger of the companies’ Texas operations.
Construction on the facility began in 2022 under Corix. Texas Water Utilities received approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in April 2026 to bring the plant online before it was placed into service in June.
The project was announced to address long-standing water quality concerns with the system. The Dispatch Record previously reported issues of discoloration affecting Lometa-area residents and businesses.
The new plant utilizes advanced ceramic membrane technology to improve water quality and increase production capacity. Texas Water Utilities Area Manager Mat Molter noted in a news release the membranes are effective for filtration and durability.
“These durable membranes are designed with multiple layers that provide both effective filtration and long-term strength, helping deliver high-quality water while keeping maintenance needs low,” he said.
The plant’s current capacity is 1 million gallons per day and can expand to 2 million gallons per day, with the potential to reach 2.8 million gallons per day if needed.

Today was for the community as a whole, including our team members.”
