The Kempner Water Supply Corp. announced Wednesday it has reduced drought restrictions down to stage 3. Customers have sustained stage 4 drought restrictions since July 24.

The city of Lampasas is yet to make a decision on whether it will reduce conservation measures from stage 4 to stage 3.

KWSC General Manager Bruce Sorenson said upgrades to the water supplier’s plant along Stillhouse Hollow Lake have enabled the water restrictions to ease.

“We feel like our water plant can produce enough water right now,” Sorenson said. “Although Central Texas [Water System] is down, we can produce enough water right now.”

Currently, the lake level in Stillhouse Hollow sits around 604 feet. If rain continues and lake levels steadily rise over the next month, Sorenson said the KWSC may entertain another lessening in water restrictions.

“If we get everything done at our plant, we will consider going to stage 2 sometime in December,” he said. “It also depends on the lake levels. If the lake levels don’t come up at all, then we will not go into stage 2.”

Another big part of the decision to ease restrictions was to provide customers some economic relief, Sorenson said. KWSC members will see a drop in their tired rates for the entire month of November due to action taken by the KWSC Board of Directors and KWSC management.
