UPDATES:

As of Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 3:06 p.m., Kempner Water Supply Corp. has rescinded the boil water notice for all customers.

As of Thursday, Jan. 19 at about 10 p.m., KWSC officials said the concrete line was repaired and water was restored to customers.
“Thank you for your patience and kind words while we worked to restore your water service,” officials said.
The boil water notice has yet to be rescinded.

Some Kempner Water Supply Corporation customers remain under a boil water notice and others are without water while construction crews work to repair a broken water line.

As of Thursday afternoon, repairs are still taking place on a concrete transmission line with no current estimates on completion.

“Kempner Water Supply has worked continuously to restore water service to all of you.  At this point, we are hopeful that the line will be repaired sometime this evening.  Please be patient with us as we head into another long evening working non-stop to get your water flowing again,” officials said. “We appreciate your consideration and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”

In an alert to customers, KWSC officials offered to water livestock and provide drinking water at their offices at 11986 US 190 in Kempner.

On Tuesday, KWSC officials issued a statement notifying customers of “a possible interruption of service due to a repair on a transmission line.” Work on the line began the following morning.

The following day, KWSC officials reported that there was a break in a concrete transmission line, and notified customers to boil their water prior to consumption, as per Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations.

“Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions,” officials said. “To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.”

KWSC officials stated later that day that crews were unable to conduct the repair without shutting off water.

“…We were hoping we could repair it live without turning the water off. We are unable to do that repair ourselves and are having to get a contractor to do it.  Once the contractor arrives on site the water will be turned off,” officials said. “The water service will be restored as soon as the repairs are made and the flushing of the system is done.”
