Fire scorches 453 acres; several homes saved

The Texas A&M Forest Service reported 453 acres burned Thursday on property on County Road 2234, but five nearby homes were saved. Lampasas Fire Marshal Ronnie Withers said four of those homes were more directly in danger. Withers said the fire was caused by embers from piles that had been burned several days earlier.
