Lometa city officials have confirmed that municipal records have been turned over to District Court authorities due to an ongoing investigation.
City Attorney Raika Rowe, of Guevarra Law P.C., confirmed that a warrant was issued by 27th District Court of Lampasas County on Nov. 7 and was executed by the Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers Division the following day.
“The city has complied with a warrant brought to the city on Nov. 8,” Rowe said. “It was through the county of Lampasas.”
Rowe said she does not have access to the complaint filed that started the investigation.
“The city will be happy to share [information] as soon as they receive notice of disposition in this case,” the attorney said.
The warrant issued was to collect an “inventory of items” including “materials in possession of the city,” Rowe said. These materials were namely city documents.
It is unclear whether the investigation is criminal in nature.
Lometa Mayor Stephen Hicks chose to make no comment about the investigation and directed questions to the city attorney.
Rowe confirmed that this current investigation is unrelated to a previous internal investigation the city held in late July related to a suspected misapplication of fiduciary property. That investigation was conducted by the Lometa Police Department.
While misapplication of fiduciary property is a crime defined by the Texas Penal Code, city officials told the Dispatch Record in August they did not consider the investigation a criminal matter at that time.
