Lampasas County Sheriff Jess Ramos confirmed there is an active homicide investigation taking place in Kempner as of Wednesday.

Kempner Police Department is the primary investigating authority, but Ramos said his office and the Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.

Kempner residents took to social media to ask about the appearance of a police presence behind Dollar Tree on Wednesday morning at about 7:40 a.m.

This is the second homicide investigation within the city of Kempner this year, the first occurring on July 14 when 61-year-old Myer Nena was allegedly beaten to death. The primary suspect in that case is his son, Carson Myer Nena, 28, who was indicted on a charge of murder on Sept. 13.

More updates on this story will be posted as they are available.
