City of Lampasas announces advisory board openings

The city of Lampasas is accepting applications for volunteer board positions, officials announced this week.

This month, 21 positions on various advisory boards are up for renewal, with several possible vacancies.

The city has nine advisory boards, and each board has between five and 10 member positions. Due to alternating terms, several positions come up for renewal each year, but the annual number varies.

City officials accept applications year round for these volunteer advisory board positions. Certain boards, such as the Airport Advisory Board and Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, require members to have specific experience or skill sets.

AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD

The Airport Advisory Board advises the City Council, city manager and airport manager on matters regarding the Lampasas Municipal Airport.

The board meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m. All five board members and two alternates must be licensed pilots. Members serve a five-year term.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM COMMITTEE This committee meets on an as-needed basis at noon on dates to be determined during the city’s budget preparation season, which is during the summer months. The purpose of the committee is to help the city manager in research, planning and related work necessary to provide the City Council with a long-term Capital Improvement Projects plan.

This committee has eight members who serve threeyear terms.

CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS This board meets monthly on the third Thursday at 8 a.m. Members of the board should represent trades, including construction contractors, mortgage lenders or real estate industry professionals.

There are five members and two alternates who serve five-year terms.

The board hears appeals and requests for variances from construction code requirements and provides recommendations to the City Council.

The board also recommends basic minimum construction requirements to safeguard citizen health, welfare and safety from fire and other construction hazards.

GOLF COURSE ADVISORY BOARD This board meets as needed to review recommended golf course policy and the five-year golf course capital improvements plan. The board has four members who serve two-year terms.

Applications are available in the City Secretary’s Office in the City Administration Building located at 312 E. Third St.

Completed applications can be dropped off at the City Secretary’s Office, faxed to 512-556-8083 or emailed to the city secretary.

LAMPASAS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORP.

The LEDC is responsible for promoting the economic development of the community through coordination with the city and the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce.

The LEDC Board of Directors has seven members who serve two-year terms. It meets monthly on every third Wednesday.

All directors must reside within the city limits. At least three directors must be persons who are not officials of or employed by the city.

LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD

The Library Advisory Board helps to formulate library policies, administer memorial funds and generally promote library service. The board is responsible to the City Council.

A majority of this board must consist of Lampasas city residents. The board meets monthly on the second Monday at 9:30 a.m. and has nine members who serve threeyear terms. Members must reside in the library service area as outlined in the library circulation policy.

PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD

This board consists of five specific organization

members and three atlarge members who serve two-year terms. They meet monthly on the third Thursday at 6 p.m.

The board is responsible for conducting studies and making plans for improvements and additions to all existing and proposed parks and recreation facilities. The board also helps the city in procuring financial assistance from the state and federal government for these projects.

This advisory board consists of members who represent a number of civic organizations, including the Adult Softball Association or Lampasas County Little League Association, Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce, Lampasas ISD, the Oran Milo Roberts Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Lampasas Spring Ho Festival.

PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION

This commission makes recommendations to the Lampasas City Council regarding the city’s Comprehensive Plan, changes in zoning and zoning for newly annexed areas, and the approval of plats.

There are seven members of the commission who serve three-year terms. They must be residents of Lampasas or the extraterritorial jurisdiction and own property within the city limits.

The board meets the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m.

ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS The Zoning Board of Adjustments meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., and it consists of five regular members and four alternates.

The board hears appeals to decisions made by city officials regarding zoning ordinances. It also considers expansions to structures or variances to the zoning regulations.

OAK HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION Members of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association meet monthly with cemetery staff to share ideas and plan for the future of the cemetery. New members are always welcome.
