A Lampasas County woman was arrested Saturday after authorities said she shot her husband several times.

Sarah Jane Ames, 32, was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly shot her husband multiple times in the arm during a domestic disturbance.

Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office on Monday released a statement about the incident.

LCSO dispatch officers received an emergency call at 2:57 p.m. Saturday afternoon from Ames, who reported she had “shot her husband multiple times.” Two sheriff’s deputies and one Kempner police officer responded to her home in the 1800 block of County Road 3340, arriving at about 3:08 p.m.

When they arrived, officers learned the purported victim, 38-year-old William Isaac Fender IV, was at a neighbor’s house across the street and that a domestic disturbance had occurred between the married couple, resulting in the shooting.

“The argument escalated, causing Ames to arm herself with a Smith & Wesson 9-mm semi-automatic pistol … she allegedly shot Fender twice, once in his arm and another in the upper chest,” authorities said. “Fender was able to disarm Ames, taking the weapon away from her and leaving the residence.”

Ames was arrested at her residence without further incident and transported to Lampasas County Jail, where she was booked on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. She was arraigned by Lampasas County Justice of the Peace Camron Brister, who set her bond at $500,000.

Fender was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center by air ambulance where he underwent surgery. As of Monday morning, he was listed in stable condition.

LCSO Criminal Investigator Nick Roberts responded to process the crime scene. He will be assisted in the ongoing investigation by Investigator Wayne Hilgenberg.
